Ethiopia gives award to Turkish drone maker

The head of Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar received a "medal of honor" from Ethiopia's military for his support in bolstering the nation's air force during the two-year civil war in Tigray.

In Bishoftu, close to Addis Ababa, during an annual air force exhibition, the commander of Ethiopia's army presented Haluk Bayraktar, the CEO of Turkey’s premiere autonomous technology company Baykar.

 with the award.

Remarkably, Mr. Bayraktar said that he "was honored to receive the medal of honor," which is not often granted to foreigners.

It is thought that the employment of armed drones contributed to the federal government's victory in the civil war. Following the signing of a peaceagreement in Pretoria, South Africa, the fighting came to an end in November of last year.

The specific terms of the medal are unknown, however it appears to be distinct from the National Medal of Honour, which is generally presented by the country's president.

African countries are increasingly obtaining Turkish drones to combat armed organizations.
