79 polling stations opened and registered voters without the approval of the Electoral Board



In addition to the Somali region, the board has also announced the locations where voters will cast their ballots on September. 


Voters who are registered on 79 polling stations were rejected because  they were held without the approval of the Electoral Board. 


The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), after consulting with political parties on June 9, 2021, announced the issues related to the decision regarding the 6th General Election. 


According to a statement issued by the Board, Addis Ababa City Administration has registered voters in 2 illegal polling stations, in Dire Dawa city administrations 6 illegal polling stations and 71 in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People's Region. The Board will make a decision on the voting process before the polling day. 


It has completed the verification of voter registration at the national level and the number of registered voters for the 6th national election is 37.4 million. 


The number does not include 14 constituencies where voter registration has been suspended due to investigations in the Somali region, the board said. 


The Board also selected polling stations that could not be used for voting on June 21, 2021 and instead held elections on September , 2021. 


These are 


In Benishangul-Gumuz region: Metekel, Shinasha Special, Kamash and Dalti 


In the Oromia region, Begi, Monday Market, Ayana, Galilee, Alibo, Gidami, Kombolcha 


In the Amhara region, Majete (Makoi), Argoba Special, Shewarobit, Epheson, Chilga 1, Chilga 2, Lay Armacho, Ankober 


 Southern Region: Surma Special, Dizi Special, Red Soil Standard, Majet Standard, Sheko Special, Tape and 


In the Harari region, Jegol is unique, Jegol is normal. 


The Board also urged government security agencies responsible for improving security at polling stations due to security concerns. 


It is to be recalled that the Board of Elections has previously stated that there are problems with the ballot papers of 54 constituencies. 


After consulting with the parties, the Board announced that it had reduced the number of constituencies to 27 on October 11, 2021. 


It will be recalled that the voting in the Somali region and the referendum in southwestern Ethiopia will be held on September, 2021.
