In his speech, the President praised Eritrea's ability to assert its sovereignty and overcome challenges.

 

"There were forces that tried to keep Eritrea in exile by inciting constant conflict," he said. They did not specify which forces were involved.

 

The border war between Ethiopia and Eritrea 20 years ago claimed many lives.

 

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has won the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his role in bringing peace to the war-torn country.

 

In his speech, President Isaiah said, "Patience in our 20-year rule has now yielded results."
