According
to DW, more than 200 people have been killed in an attack by so-called
"OLF-Shen" militants in Kiramu Woreda, East Welega Zone of Oromia
State.
As
a result, more than 40,000 people have been displaced.
According
to eyewitnesses, who told to Deutsche Welle, the militants have been raiding
six kebeles in the woreda since last week, killing and maiming Amhara
residents.
According
to an eyewitness who survived the attack, a letter was posted on August 17, 2021
warning Amharic-speaking residents not to leave their homes.
"After
the residents had been" hiding "in their homes for a week, local
officials broke the warning, and residents began to leave their homes in peace,
after which militants stormed the area and killed those who fled. They
plundered their cattle, "Someone was sitting in the house," he said,
pulling out the roof.
The
eyewitness said that after Special Forces entered the area, locals buried 72
people on Tuesday alone.
Another
eyewitness from Haro Kebele told the station that more than 200 people had been
killed by the militants in various kebeles.
According
to Deutsche Welle, at least four of the dead were members of the Special
Forces.
The
eyewitness added that more than 40,000 people had been displaced.
One
of the officials from East Welega Zone and Oromia, who we called to confirm the
attack and the damage, hung up and said, "I am at work."
"We
often calls to other government officials, but they don't pick up the
phone." DW Reported.
