Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is returning for an as yet untitled “Fast & Furious” movie as Luke Hobbs, the actor announced on Twitter on Thursday, after bowing out of the successful franchise in 2021 due to differences with star Vin Diesel.

is back in the Fast and Furious franchise,” Johnson said in a video message
from Hawaii, wearing a lei.

According
to Reuters, “The next Fast & Furious
film you’ll see the legendary lawman in will be the HOBBS movie that will serve
as a fresh, new chapter & set up for FASTX: Part II,” he added.
The
"Fast & Furious" franchise is the fifth-highest grossing
franchise of all time with over $7 billion in worldwide movie office receipts.
The
most recent film, "Fast X," starring Jason Momoa and Vin Diesel, had
its debut last month and had the second-largest global opening weekend of the
year. Only another Universal production, "The Super Mario Bros.
Movie," outperformed it. Over $500 million has been made in international
box offices.
Johnson
claimed that Diesel and he had reconciled.
"Vin
and I put the past behind us last summer. In his statement, he pledged,
"We'll lead with brotherhood and resolve - and always take care of the
franchise, characters, and FANS that we love.
The
"Moana" star continued by saying that he approaches his job with a
"audience first mentality" and that he offers his love to the entire
"Fast" family.
Chris
Morgan, a seasoned writer for the franchise, will return to handle the future
project's script and develop Johnson's portrayal of the fearless diplomatic
security service agent he has previously portrayed in movies.
